“Instructions for living a life: Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it"
what does it mean to 'just be you'
this is the million dollar question, isn't it?
I came up with this tagline as I was stumbling into trying to define what that meant for me personally.. . who am I, what is my brand, what do I have to offer you all?
Beyond teaching Yoga for my entire adult life, I am fiercely passionate about living my best life, as corny as that sounds, as I still try to discover, at the age of 45, exactly what that means. I do know what it DOESN'T mean, and I believe that I can add value to your life through various teachings and practices that have worked for me.
I have discovered over the years that I feel the most ‘whole’ when I am moving my body, especially outside, in Nature. The power of nature is profound, and something I think many of us have sadly lost touch with in this modern, fast-paced, and very ‘insulated’ world. We turn on the air conditioner when it’s hot, we blast the heat when it’s cold. We are disconnected from the elements and from the natural world.
The next time you are struggling, try this: go outside, lay down (on the ground if possible), look up at the sky, and take 5 deep breaths. Then check in with yourself- the problem, the anxiety, the fear, the WHATEVER may still be present, but I bet it loses its power even just a little bit… that is the power of nature.
My other passion is essential oils. I am a certified aromatherapist and I teach and share about the world's best essential oils in the world, doTERRA. Along with sharing the power of these plants, I am building a global team of women who share their light freely, allowing doTERRA to serve as a catalyst for stepping into the life of their dreams. More about that a bit later…
I am a momma of three amazing beings ranging in age from 18 to 6, and just celebrated my 46th revolution around the sun. Like any mature adult, I have dealt with my fair share of challenges. So when I say that moving the body and spending more time in and with nature is a sacred path to rejuvenation and empowerment, I don’t speak lightly—
I teach what I live.
My mission: to support your healing as you charter your own course to happiness (joy is our birthright and our true nature, and I didn't make that up, it comes from one of my most favorite spiritual teachers, Sri Swami Satchidananda
I stumbled into yoga as a dance student at NYU.
Intrigued by the way my professor incorporated yoga into her dance classes, I started practicing yoga at the original Jivamukti Yoga Studio, in NYC’s East Village. I completed my 500-hour training in 1997 at the Jivamukti Yoga School, under the guidance of Sharon Gannon and David Life. To build on and diversify my understandings, I’ve spent many (and I mean MANY) hours studying and practicing Anusara, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Ashaya and other styles. When people ask me what kind of 'style' of Yoga I teach, I have to say simply that its Jessica Yoga :), as I pay homage to all of my teachers, but the teaching has really taken on a life of its own over many years.
I’m the owner and director of JBYoga- a Yoga, Wellness and Lifestyle company currently based on the east end of Long Island, NY, but spanning the globe. Through practices such as Yoga and other movement practices and sports such as stand up paddleboarding, sup yoga, surfing, running, as well as a holistic lifestyle incorporating organic and seasonal eating and the use of alternative treatments and modalities such as aromatherapy, we seek to empower the individual to take their health (and their happiness) into their own hands.
